15 Week Ultrasound

15 week ultrasound today, babies look great!  Growing right on schedule with only a 5% discordance between them.  The difference in size for twins can be an issue, especially if they share a placenta (but that isn't an issue for our babies).

The babies are considered di/di, meaning Dichorionic-Diamniotic.  This is the safest type of twins, both for the mother and the health of the babies.  The babies each have their own placenta and their own amniotic sac.  They don't share resources, so should grow at the same rate as a singleton.  Also, IUGR is less of an issue - at least until the end of the pregnancy when the two placentas can fuse into one.

This also means that they are very likely fraternal (it is a rare situation for di/di twins to be identical).  So, maybe we can get a boy and a girl :-)
