The day is finally here - the big 20 week ultrasound. This is considered a big milestone in any pregnancy.
Our hearts always beat a little bit faster until we see the babies' little hearts beating fast on that ultrasound. We are so lucky to be going to a smaller clinic and hospital - Hudson Hospital in Hudson, WI. Our doctor, Dr. Dennis Hartung is awesome. We knew after we found it was twins, that our dreams of a midwife attended water birth were out. Dr. Hartung is a laid back, let nature take its course guy and the OB/GYN the midwife recommended. The great part of going to a smaller practice is that Dr. Hartung is always the one at our appointments, doing our ultrasounds and will be at the birth (unless on a planned vacation).
Everything looks fantastic - the heart rates are right in the correct range, normal bone/spine development, normal brain and organ development and no large increase in discordance. Awesome!
Also, he confirmed that Baby A is a boy and head down at the exit. Baby B is a girl and is breech. Hopefully she will flip head down before D day.
We thought that twins automatically meant C-section and in most hospitals it does. Dr. Hartung does not believe that and strives for natural (but not necessarily drug free) births, so that is quite a relief. I (Rachel) do not want surgery if possible, it terrifies me.
