We had our annual RA camping trip with a group of friends that were all resident advisers at UMD. The group has grown over the years - marriages, kids, new friends, etc. We headed to Whitewater State Park for two nights and the kids' first camping trip. We had attempted camping before, but always at a park 5 minutes from home. It was close, so when they didn't fall asleep well - we just went home. This park is 3 hours away, there is no going home. Friday night was rough - the kids were super excited with the tent and sleeping bags. The jumping around started with a small bloody nose for Alex and ended with all of us going to bed at the same time and waking up A LOT. Saturday night went better though - so much better that we booked a family camping trip in August. In between the sleep adventures, there was swimming, eating, throwing rocks, taking walks, and (bummer) avoiding the rain. Fun times had by all. And remember - always take a fully charged iPad with the "Cars" movie on it when you go camping.
